SMMHEP is delighted to have been awarded a further grant from the Scottish Government to be administered by Global Health Partnerships. The Supporting Vulnerable Groups in Malawi project begins in February 2026 and extends over an eighteen month period. There are three workstreams. One will continue our longstanding commitment to develop senior clinical leadership through the training of psychiatrists. The long term aim here is to get enough locally trained staff to become a self-sustaining system. The other workstreams focus on developing a Child and Adolescent Mental Health training clinic in Blantyre with district outreach and a Quality Improvement project at Zomba Mental Hospital. The Zomba project will also involve MEHUCA, The Mental Health Service User and Carer Association. All projects will follow the design and implentation principles at the heart of the Scottish Government view of international development - a participatory approach that focusses on gender equality and social inclusion. We are all looking forward to continuing and expanding the work of SMMHEP alongside our Malawian partners.
